Sony Ericsson delays phone launch because of tsunami

Phone maker Sony Ericsson has pushed back the release of its Xperia smartphone due to supply chain disruptions in Japan because of the earthquake and tsunami last month.

Sony Ericsson says it will address the delay when it releases results for the first three months of 2011 later today. With competition from the iPhone and Blackberry, the delay might be costly for the company.

Many companies are facing supply problems after component factories in Japan shut down after the disaster. Nokia, the world's largest mobile phone maker, has already said it expects disruptions to the supply of some of its products.

Mark Koh, a senior analyst at Frost & Sullivan, says Sony Ericsson's supply disruptions.
