The Late-Day Wrap: Sony Ericsson, UAE, Sonos, Net Neutrality, Buongiorno, Songasaurus, Apple v. Samsung...

Sony Ericsson posted profits of $21.3 million during the recent quarter, down 6 percent and part of a rocky transition into smartphones. An Android-powered smartphone portfolio is being developed; the company has 2 percent market share on quarterly sales of 8.1 million devices.

EMI Music Arabia and Souq.com has joined forces to launch a music download service for the United Arab Emirates (UAE). "In the Middle East, I would say that the percentage of physical sales is much higher than 70 percent," Abhijit Mitra, chairman and managing director for EMI in the Middle East and North Africa, told The National.

Sonos now offers a free Android app controller, available at the Android Market. The multi-room, digitally-connected stereo system also now offers Apple Airplay compatibility.

The European Commission has decided not to pursue net neutrality legislation. Instead, the Commission prefers to rely upon ISP competition, existing laws, media watchdog and consumer complaints to shed light on any abuses.

In monstrous acquisition news, Milan-based mobile entertainment publisher Buongiorno has purchased Dada.net for $40.6 million. Dada recently lauched Play.me, a streaming music and download service.

Brand new day, brand new innovative music app. The latest is Songasaurus. The free app pools metadata from various smartphones, the lets everyone in the 'circle' see the collections.

Apple is now accusing Samsung of copying its design specifics on a number of smart phones, the latest in a string of suits against Android-powered manufacturers.
